Macedonian filmmakers at Berlinale

Macedonian cinematography at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival Berlinale is represented by a dozen filmmakers who presented their projects, made contacts with foreign partners and producers and participated in the festival’s programmes.
First feature film Amok by the young director Vardan Tozija was screened Tuesday at the European Film Market at the Berlinale. The author and production team are satisfied with the screening which was attended by thirty foreign producers.
The film Amok is about a group of delinquents who decide to revenge the society that has rejected them, Tozija told MIA.

The producer Ognen Antov from Dream Factory company is convinced that the success of Amok will be success for the Macedonian film and entire new generation of filmmakers. The full hall of the European Film Market where 1,150 films are screened is a good signal that Amok film can experience international success. The presence of large number of film buyers and sellers, producers,
distributors at the premiere of Amok film at one of the A category film festivals is raising the young Macedonian cinematography to higher level, Antov said.
Director of the Film Agency Mimi Gjorgoska – Ilievska said that the visit to Berlin has two most important goals promotion of the Macedonian film and presentation of Macedonia as film production destination i.e. attraction of foreign filmmakers and producers to use Macedonian cinematographic capacities.
Apart from presentation of Macedonian films also the International Cinematographers Film Festival “Manaki Brothers” was presented at Berlinale festival which brings most influential people in European and world cinematography. Young director Dina Duma will take part at the special programme for talented directors “Berlinale talents.”
