Macedonian teenage violinists to perform in HCMC

Two violin prodigies from Macedonia will perform at a classical concert in Ho Chi Minh City Sunday.

“Sounds from Macedonia” at the Opera House will feature award-winning Eva Bogoevska, all of 14, and Eni Vucidolova, 17, who has performed worldwide and as a soloist for her national orchestra.

Bogoevska will be joined by the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera to perform a popular piece by German Romantic composer Max Christian Friedrich Bruch.

Vucidolova will start the concert with a classical baroque piece by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Baroque is a European artistic style which started in Rome in around 1600 with elaborate musical ornamentation, changes to musical notation, and new instrumental playing techniques.

It accounts for a major portion of western classical music.

The concert will feature another Romantic piece by Richard Wagner and one by baroque composer George Frideric Handel.

It will be conducted by Le Phi Phi, known for connecting Vietnamese artists abroad with performers at home.

Bogoevska has won many top prizes in her young career including one at an international contest in Serbia in 2009, a youth talent festival in Italy in 2012, and, most recently, the Lake Pearls international festival in Macedonia last year.

Phi wields the baton for an orchestra in Serbia and teaches at a ballet center in Macedonia.

Tickets for the concert, to be started at 8 p.m., are available at the venue at No.7 Lam Son Square, District 1, at VND200,000 (US$9.50), VND350,000, and VND400,000. For students it will cost VND80,000.
