34. Skopje Summer begins

The 34. Skopje Summer will open Friday with Beethoven's 9. Symphony, performed by a mixed choir from Japan, accompanied by the Macedonian Opera and Ballet Choir and Orchestra.

The concert includes Japanese conductor Shungo Moriyama, soloists Emi Hishiki (soprano) and Keisuke Otani (baritone) from Japan, Irena Kavkalevska (mezzo-soprano) and Gjorgji Cuckovski and (tenor) from Macedonia.

Earlier, exhibition of Maja Svetieva on 27 years of her work will open in "Mala Stanica" gallery.


This year's Skopje Summer includes about 2,000 participants from over 20 countries, 70 events held throughout Macedonia's capital.

"The festival will focus on the 50. anniversary from the Skopje earthquake, serving as reminder of the world's solidarity, 50 years from the French-German Elysee Treaty, and 50 years of Macedonian Music Youth", said Mirko Stefanovski from the Skopje Culture and Art Directorate at a press conference.
